Blackburn Rovers completed the signing of Bayern Munich's Paraguay international striker Roque Santa Cruz in July 2007.

The 25-year-old moved to Ewood Park for an undisclosed fee, having also been a target for Manchester City after being told he could leave Bayern.

Santa Cruz had been with the German giants for nearly eight years, while he has scored 16 goals in 46 outings for Paraguay, including a hat-trick against Colombia in the most recent Copa America.

His first season in the Premier League was a great success as he formed an effective partnership with Benni McCarthy and scored nineteen goals.

He was one of the shrewdest purchases of the season, and will be hoping to continue his fine form in 2008/09.
