CAMPING
CAMPSITE OPENING TIMES
FAMILY CAMPING
Family Camping is situated in the Brown Campsite next to the Campervans. Please ask
stewards to direct you there.
Last year's festival at Bramham Park was a fantastic success and Mean Fiddler were pleased with the new measures that their new security firm put in place. The same security firm are returning this year and Men Fiddler are again holding festival forums to get feedback from you about how they can improve things further. Please visit http://forums.leedsfestival.com/ to give your views.
NEW CAMPSITE NAMES
Mean Fiddler have been working on making the campsites easier to find your way
around and one of the points that has been made in the past was that all of the
different yellow campsites were a bit confusing.
So they've changed the names this year and below are the new names. You can look in the column on the right to find out what the same area used to be called.
NAME FOR 2007 --> FORMER NAME
BROWN CAMPSITE --> BROWN CAMPSITE
GREEN CAMPSITE --> GREEN CAMPSITE
ORANGE CAMPSITE --> ORANGE CAMPSITE
RED CAMPSITE --> RED CAMPSITE
BLUE VALLEY CAMPSITE --> YELLOW VALLEY CAMPSITE
WHITE VILLAGE CAMPSITE --> YELLOW VILLAGE CAMPSITE
YELLOW BUBBLE CAMPSITE --> YELLOW BUBBLE CAMPSITE
LATE NIGHT ENTERTAINMENT
There will be more late night entertainment again this year for you to enjoy
after the bands have finished. There will be the Silent Disco from midnight
until 3am, the Cabaret Tent will open until 2am and the Cinema Tent and Nokia
Tent will open until 3am on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
In the village, Carling's Cold Beer Amnesty and Oxfam Music tents will be open
until late.
DJS IN THE CAMPSITES
If
you are a budding DJ and want to play your own music at our campsite parties
each night, then come along to the campsite office in your zone to register and
book yourself a 20 or 30 minute slot for later that evening between 11pm and
3am. We will provide the PA and a CD system of your downloaded tunes and then
you can invite all your friends to your own Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival
party.
GAS CANISTERS AND AEROSOLS
Throwing
gas canisters or aerosols on fires may look fun but it is bloody dangerous! In 2005
tragically one festival-goer lost an eye as a result of someone throwing a gas
canister on a fire. This year, there will again be a zero tolerance policy on
this type of behavior so anyone seen to have, or even thought to have thrown a
canister or aerosol can on a fire will be evicted from the festival on the
spot. If you have thrown a gas canister or aerosol on a fire in the past then
please think again and remember what results your actions could have.
There will be a gas canister / aerosol exchange point in your campsite next to
the campsite office where you can take your old or unwanted gas canisters /
aerosols and swap them for a chance to win tickets to all your favorite
festivals next year. This is open 24 hours. A draw will take place on the Main
Stage each day at around 7pm and the winner will get:
4 tickets to Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival 2008
2 tickets to Glastonbury 2008
2 tickets to Download 2008
Please use this exchange point.
ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
Anyone
that is evicted for anti social behaviour such as
deliberately starting large bonfires, throwing missiles at staff or throwing
gas canisters or aerosols on fires will receive a life-time ban to all
festivals that Mean Fiddler and Live Nation promote including Glastonbury and
Download. Their details will also be passed on to West Yorkshire Police.
CAMPFIRES
Leeds City Council have again given Mean Fiddler the go-ahead to allow small
campfires fuelled by clean wood in the campsites but not bonfires. Small
campfires are ones where the flame itself is below knee height and less than
one pace wide. They will be monitored and will have to be put out if they are
exceeding these limits. There will also be a firewood trader onsite so that you
can buy clean wood for your small campfires. Campfires are not allowed in the
arena or in the car parks.
BONFIRES
FIRE SAFETY
Small clean, campfires only are allowed in the campsites - below knee height
and less than one pace wide. They will be monitored and extinguished if
otherwise.
· There will be a firewood trader onsite to buy clean wood for your small
campfires.
· There are to be no bonfires permitted in the campsites this year.
· There are to be no fires at all in the arena this year.
· Candles are plain dangerous; torches are far less of a fire risk in and
around tents.
· Watch out for flying embers and sparks, as they could start a fire, even from
some distance.
· Don't burn plastic, rubbish or any unwanted items.
· Never use petrol or paraffin to start or revive a fire.
· If you cook, always do it outside, ensure that there is constant supervision
and keep well away from any flammable materials.
· The zone manager in your campsite will be able to help you on any fire issues
you may have.
Guidelines for the safe use of Camping Gas:
Gas canister and aerosol exchanges points will be set up in the campsites at
your zone managers' caravan.
When you hand them in, you have a chance to win the mother of all Festival
competitions!
If you must bring gas to the festival please follow the guidelines
below:
· Before coming to the festival have your equipment serviced.
· Never light a gas cooker inside your tent.
· Always store any spare canisters out of doors.
· "EMPTY" canisters and aerosols may not be completely empty. When
you've removed it from your stove store it upright outside your tent for a
while to allow any gas that may be in it to evaporate before bringing it to the
gas canister exchange at your campsite zone managers' caravan where it will be
disposed of safely. A system will be in place to swap empty gas canisters and
aerosols for a voucher for a competition to win free tickets to many of next
year's festivals.
· Never change gas cylinders inside your tent.
· Never hold gas cylinders upside down when changing.
· Never use a naked flame to search for a leak.
· NEVER put a camping gas cylinder on a fire or try to heat it artificially.
This can prove fatal. Anyone seen doing so, or even thought to have done so,
will be evicted from site.
· Check the colour of the flame: If
the flame is burning blue it's fine. If it's burning with an orange or yellow
flame or is creating sooty stains on your stove you may have a problem with
your stove, don't use it.
· Never attempt to refill a gas canister.
If you smell gas or think you have a leak turnoff if possible. Evacuate the
area and get help from a steward or on site fire team.
Remember the zone managers and on-site fire team are there to answer your
questions.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOU DISCOVER A FIRE?
You
must get everyone out of the tent, evacuate the area as quickly as possible and
get help from the nearest steward or security who will call the onsite Fire
Safety Team.
In the campsites you can go to the nearest Fire Tower (situated around the perimeter of the campsites and easily visible). In the unlikely event that you cannot find a member of security or steward nearby then please dial 999.
You may discover a fire in its very early stages and think that you can deal with it yourself. The first thing that you should remember is that fire spreads very quickly. Even a small, contained fire can quickly spread, producing smoke and fumes, which can kill in seconds.
If you are in any doubt do not tackle the fire, no matter how small. You can put yourself at risk by fighting the fire. If in doubt, get out, get the onsite Fire Safety Team out, and stay out.
Many people put out small fires quite safely. However, some people die
or are injured by tackling fires which are beyond their capabilities. Here is a
simple fire code to help you decide whether to put out or get out -
· Only tackle a fire in its very early stages.
· Always put your own and other peoples safety first. Make sure you can escape
if you need to and never let a fire block your exit.
· Fire extinguishers are only for fighting a fire in its very early stages.
Never tackle a fire if it is starting to spread or has spread to other items
nearby.
· Around 70% of fire deaths are caused by people being overcome by smoke and
fumes.
>TOXIC FUMES
Some
festival-goers have created bonfires in the past using personal items or items
they have found lying around. Not only is this dangerous but it is also very
polluting. Tents, metal poles and sleeping bags are extremely toxic when burnt.
Please, please do not burn them when we can put them to good use in the future.
ZONE MANAGERS
Mean
Fiddler will again have the Zone Manager positions in each campsite zone. The
Zone Managers are in burgundy tabards and are on duty 24 hours based in and
around their campsite office. They are there to run their zone and to help you
with any questions or support. Please use them.
CAMPSITE OFFICES
The
campsite offices are based in caravans in each zone. They are open 24 hours and
they are the bases for the Zone Managers, the CAT teams and they are also where
the gas canister / aerosol exchange points are located. The areas in front of
the campsite offices will be used for the DJ parties each night. They are also
the place to make complaints if you want to. Especially about security if that
is needed.
STAFF
There are plenty of Customer Protection Officers and Customer Support Officers in the
campsites again this year.
· Customer Protection Officers are in white tabards and are supervisors.
· Customer Support Officers are in bottle green tabards
· Oxfam stewards are in yellow or orange tabards
· Campsite Assistance Teams are in purple tabards
· Traffic marshals are in royal blue tabards
· Fire marshals are in red tabards.
· Zone Managers are in burgundy tabards
If you have a complaint to make about Customer Protection or Support Officers, please make a note of their tabard number and speak to one of the following:
Zone Managers - these are based in each campsite zone, at the arena entrance, and in the arena itself. They are dressed in burgundy coloured tabards with the title "Zone Manager" on them. Their role is to oversee their zone and to direct the actions of staff. They are completely independent from security and we have employed them in order that we have a manager in each area. Please use them.
Welfare staff - these are based in the Welfare Tent in the Village. They are present in this tent 24 hours. They are dressed in white T shirts with 'MOW' in red on the front and Ministry of Welfare on the back. Their role is to look after festival goers and they offer a complaints / suggestions feedback service. Please use them.
Please make good use of these staff and ask them if you need any help or if you have any concerns at all. All of the above will pass on your complaints and comments to Mean Fiddler straight away.
CAMPSITE ASSISTANT TEAMS (CATS)
If
you do not want to make a complaint in person, then please call 07961 027663
The CATs are volunteers based in the festival campsites. The CATs have been working hard since 2003 - helping campers to get the most out of their festival.
The CAT volunteers are there to help you 24 hours a day! If you're having trouble putting up your tent, need directions, are concerned about a group or an individuals behaviour, need a UV pen to mark your belongings, would like to complain about a build-up of litter, or let us know about facilities which require attention – please contact a CAT volunteer – they'll do their best to help!
You can contact the CAT volunteers via the campsite offices – these are located centrally within each campsite zone, if you can't find a campsite office - head towards your nearest fire tower - they'll be able to provide directions.
If you're interested in volunteering to be a CAT please visit:
www.DCSiteServices.com/CATs/
Or email CATs@DCSiteServices.com
EMERGENCY ACCESS LANES on THE CAMPSITE
If
you are camped in an emergency access lane, your tent will have to be moved by
our security teams. If you return to your tent to find that this has occurred,
please make a note of the campsite that you are in (Orange, Green etc) and go
to the nearest Campsite Office or fire tower (situated near the toilet blocks)
for assistance. If you are not sure about whether you are camped
inappropriately or not, please check with the Campsite Assistance Teams (CATS).
If you find yourself without accommodation due to your tent being removed then
please go to the Welfare Tent in the Village Area which is open 24 hours. They
will be happy to help you. Thank you for your co-operation. Please note that
although we will make all reasonable efforts to take care of your property, no
responsibility can be taken for any items that are lost or damaged during tent
removal.
QUIETER CAMPSITE - BROWN CAMPSITE
If
you would enjoy being in a quieter campsite, then please ask the security or
CAT teams to direct you to the Brown campsite.
CRIME REDUCTION INFORMATION
The
following is advice from West Yorkshire Police:
'Car Keys, Cash Credit Cards, Mobile Phones, Wallets, Purses and other valuable
items should be kept with you at all times. Do not leave them in unattended
vehicles or tents.
Large Gatherings of people such as this can provide easy pickings for thieves.
If you present them with easy opportunities they will take them. If you are
reporting the theft of a mobile phone you will be required to first contact
your network provider and have the handset blocked. This will ensure that its
use will be blocked across all UK networks even if the SIM card is changed, and
will render it useless to the thief. A list of contact numbers for UK network
providers is available at the Information and Welfare Tent. West Yorkshire
Police are not based on site but their command is run from Wetherby Police HQ.
The crime reporting number is 01924 293523. Only in an extreme emergency should
you call 999. Crimes can also be reported via Security. Please use the left
luggage point near the arena entrance to store your belongings.
INFORMATION BOARD
There
will be information boards at each campsite office including a large 'you are
here map', latest running order information and other general information on
all onsite services, facilities and entertainment.
LOVE NOT RIOTS CAMPAIGN
And
last but not least! The 'Love Not Riots' campaign was started up in 2006 by Amy
and Zena, two festival goers who have gathered a lot of support for their cause
and coverage in the NME and on websites.
This is how they describe their campaign:
'Whether you have been a victim of the events previously present at the
festivals or just think it is wrong to risk putting people's safety in danger,
we need your support and you need a free "Love Not Riots" badge to
join the massive following of Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival Fans that we have
already hooked!
We are not trying to be the "fun police" and stop people having a laugh we are talking about the kind of behaviour that scares people and puts the welfare of others in danger! If we make one possible rioter listen and change their views of how to enjoy the festival then the campaign will have worked and been worth every second!
There WILL come a time when the authorities take into account the destructive behaviour of previous festivals and say enough is enough and Leeds Festival will be no more
To find out more about the campaign, contact Amy and Zena direct, find out how to get your hands on a FREE "Love Not Riots" badge and have a look at the campaign T-shirts and Vest Tops available visit www.lovenotriots.com.

DIRECTIONS
Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival 2007 – The address is: Bramham Park, near Leeds, LS23 6ND.
WHERE IS CARLING WEEKEND: LEEDS FESTIVAL?
Carling
Weekend: Leeds Festival 2007 takes place at Bramham Park. Bramham is located
just off the A1, 5 miles south of Wetherby, 15 miles west of York and 10 miles
East of Leeds. Exit the A1 at the Bramham/Thorner junction and follow the brown
signs via Bowcliffe Hall.
PLEASE RESPECT YOUR ENVIRONMENT AND DON'T DROP LITTER ON YOUR WAY TO AND FROM THE FESTIVAL.
DISTANCES
The
following is a list of distances from the site to nearby villages and towns
(calculated by shortest road journey rather than as the crow flies)
· Bramham Park to Thorner 1.6 miles
· Bramham Park to Bramham 2.6 miles
· Bramham Park to Seacroft (Tesco) 5.9 miles
· Bramham Park to Leeds 11.3 miles
· Bramham Park to Wetherby 5.4 miles
· Bramham Park to Harrogate 14.4 miles
· Bramham Park to York 17.7 miles
· Bramham Park to Leeds Bradford Airport 18.3 miles
· Bramham Park to Wakefield 20.6 miles
· Bramham Park to Bradford 31 miles
There is no pedestrian access to the festival but if you choose to walk onto or off site at night then please wear reflective clothing as the roads are not lit. Free reflective stickers are available at the gates. Please take great care.
SHUTTLE BUS SERVICE
There
will be frequent shuttle buses running from Leeds City Railway Station and
Leeds Coach Station to Bramham Park. There is also a service from York Station
on Thursday and back to York Station on Monday. Click here for the full
timetable.
The shuttle bus stops will be signposted from the Railway Stations and Coach Station.
There is plenty of capacity on the buses for all of your stuff and you will not have to walk far to the campsites onsite from the bus station nor will you have to walk far from the Railway Station / Coach Station to the bus stop.
The shuttle bus service will also run to and from the Tesco Extra supermarket at Seacroft so that you can go and stock up on essentials although there is also a supermarket onsite selling everything you might need at the registered retail price. Consider using the shuttle bus to get to and from Tescos if you need to go there as it is likely to be much quicker and easier than leaving the site with your car and coming back in again.
Using public transport and the shuttle bus is the best way to arrive at Leeds Festival. The shuttle buses get you nearer to a festival entrance than any other means of arriving onsite, they run regularly, the operation should be smooth and hassle free and there will be enough shuttle buses to meet the demand.
The shuttle buses will drop you off very close to the railway station or bus station and you will not have to queue as long to get on a shuttle bus as you would in a car to get to or leave the car park. Plus you can make friends on the way, enjoy a drink and feel good about your reduced impact on the environment and the fact that a part of your fare is being donated to charity!
The fares for this year's shuttle bus service are being held at the same price as last year to encourage you to use it. The journey time from Leeds to Bramham Park is around 45 minutes.
The shuttle bus fares are:
You can buy tickets on the bus or at the bus station onsite at Yellow Gate.

· Travel at off peak times (the peak is 07.00 to 14.00 Thurs)

CAR SHARING
If
you are traveling by car please visit the Leeds Festival Car Share Scheme
http://www.liftshare.org/default.asp?sub=729 operated by Liftshare. Car sharing
will help save you money by sharing the travel costs, reduce the amount of
congestion on the roads resulting in you arriving to more quickly as well as
being kind to our environment.
Alternative site: http://www.freewheelers.co.uk/Leeds_Festival
However all arrangements which you make are private arrangements between you and other sharers. The Festival does not arrange lift sharing or have any liability to or for lift sharers.
Safety first: Make sure you know the identity of the person or persons you are sharing with. Having a home telephone number is sensible precaution and make sure you leave details of the lift share, the driver and passenger's number(s) and home address if possible with friends and/or family. Take your mobile phone with you. If you are at all uncomfortable with any arrangements, or the condition of the vehicle being used, then make other plans. If a vehicle is not taxed it is possible the driver has no driving licence, no insurance and no MOT.
Safety first: trust your instincts and use common sense.

Or email CATs@DCSiteServices.com
GIVE ME SHELTER
Every year thousands of tents get dumped or trashed on site after people have
finished using them and don't want to take them home for whatever reason. But
please think differently this year, as these tents could change the lives of
other people who are in desperate situations worldwide.
At this year's Carling Weekend: Leeds festival, please take your complete tent,
sleeping bags and wellies to one of the collection points at your campsite zone
manager's caravan before you leave. And make sure you get your mates to do the
same.
Your festival kit could help:
Give shelter for families caught up in disasters such as earthquakes, famine
and conflict
Give children from impoverished backgrounds the chance to have fun at a summer
camp
Give emergency staff shelter and storage space for vital medical and
educational materials
Together with the charity Global Hand, we're making this happen.
Don't dump it. Don't destroy it. Donate it.
OXFAM STEWARDS Oxfam Festival Stewarding: Application forms are now available to apply
to steward with Oxfam at a number of music festivals during the summer. To steward you must be 18 or over and willing to work 3 x 8 hour shifts.
